Welcome To The Christian Contender

My name is Matt Longley, I work full time as a Search Engine Optimizer and Internet Marketer. I have a degree in theology, and a passion for people and technology.  I plan to express the necessity of online evangelism on my blog. The Great Commission states that Christians are to go into all the world and preach the gospel. Many Christians feel limited by their location or by their personality but many times they do not take advantage of opportunities that they have right in front of them. They dont realize that every time they sign onto the internet, they literally have millions of people at their finger tips. It is possible to go into all the world and preach the gospel, and you can do it at home right from your computer. Many unsaved people will not come to your church, let you in their house to talk about Christ, or even listen to preaching on the radio, but they might be intrigued to read something they see on the internet. There are thousands and thousands of opportunities for Christians to reach out to unsaved people online in a non-confrontational way. The problem is that many Christians have not taken advantage of the opportunity. In the next few months I hope to convince Christians of their need to be involved online, and show them effective methods to make the most of their efforts.

This blog will focus on evangelism, but will also cover a wide range of topics related to Christianity, politics, web development, marketing, web 2.0, and other interesting topics. I hope to not only educate Christians on becoming more involved in online networks for the purpose of evangelism, but also to teach them how to stay safe online, and even make money from home.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like specific topic to be covered.

Social Web2.0 Websites Are An Excellent Place To Share The Gospel

Many Christians do not know where to start to reach others for Christ online. Many churches designate special days to go visit people in their area, sometimes called visitation or soulwinning, and although that is a good thing, we should be sharing Christ every day, whereever we are. Many times people dont want to talk to a perfect stranger about something very personal to them, and often times it can be very difficult and discouraging for those witnessing. The internet is no different… you can’t expect to walk into a chat room, forum, or social site that no one knows you, and expect to win them all to Christ. You need to befriend people, show them that you are a nice person, that you care, that you are a Christian and want to make a difference in the world. Then once they see that you are real, then they might open up to you and be receptive. The key is having direct access to thousands of people 24/7.

Below is an image of hundreds of social website found on the go2web20 directory. What I would suggest to you is to find a social website that you have particular interests in. If you are a sports fan and relate with other sports fans, that try to pick a social site that focuses on sports. If you are into quilting or cooking, then you would want to find a social site that discusses these topics. The more that you can relate with others in a community, the more opportunities you will have to make friends, and be liked by those around you. Also, if you pick a place that covers your hobbies, it can be more fun to meet others and share the gospel. I am sure that some sites listed in this directory are not acceptable, so keep that in mind when skimming through the list. There are many more social opportunites online than this list and effective ways to use them, but we will cover that more later.
